Morgan Freeman Narrates The Second Kick-Ass Teaser For Transcendence

Earlier today it was Johnny Depp embedded in a series of ones and zeroes who was getting the word out about the upcoming sci-fi thriller Transcendence

In this trailer Freeman is hitting on a lot of the same points that Depp did in the preview from this morning. He surmises that perhaps the next step in our million year evolution perhaps won't be into another biological form, but rather a technological one. Considering the movie is about a man whose consciousness is sucked into a computer, that line of thinking is rather prudent.

Speaking of the movie's plot, as it has gone through production Warner Bros. has done their best to hid the film behind a cloak of secrecy. Apple, however, has a complete official synopsis that provides both story and character details:

with adebut teaser,  but now one of his castmates is getting in on the narration action. In this new video, which comes to us via Apple, the blockbuster production follows a Hollywood golden rule: if Morgan Freeman is in the movie, he gets to speak over at least one one the trailers.Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn and friend Max, both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can… but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power—to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

Depp is playing Dr. Caster in the movie, and it's possible I'm not reading that plot description right, but does it sound like he's the villain of the piece? Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany play Evelyn and Max, so perhaps the movie is about the two of them doing their best to stop the mad scientist.

Wally Pfister is helming the film as his directorial debut, having also written the most recent draft of the script. Pfister is best known as the Academy Award cinematographer behind every Christopher Nolan film since and including 2000's Memento. Because he was making Transcendence he was unavailable to shoot Nolan's latest title, Interstellar. That movie launched a trailer this past week as well:
Transcendence, which also co-stars Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, and Clifton Collins, Jr., will be in theaters on April 17, 2014, and just for good measure you can watch the Johnny Depp-narrated trailer below:
